Main findings
Bellroy lists both external volume and measured capacity: the Transit Carry-On is 41 L on the outside but holds 34 L, a distinction most luggage brands blur.
Luggage carries a 10-year warranty and bags six years (extended from three in November 2024), but both cover materials and workmanship, not travel damage.
Luggage repairs are self-service: Bellroy ships a Fix-it Kit with the part and tools rather than taking the case back.
Change-of-mind returns run 30 days from delivery, in original packaging, and the buyer pays return shipping.
What you are buying
Bellroy is an Australian carry-goods company that started with slim wallets in 2010 and is now a certified B Corporation selling wallets, phone cases, tech pouches, backpacks, slings, duffels and, more recently, luggage. The travel range centers on the Transit line (hard-shell Carry-On, Carry-On Large, Check-In and Check-In Large, plus Workpack backpacks) and the lighter Lite line (a softside Lite Carry-On, Lite Travel Pack and Lite Sling). Venture covers outdoor-leaning slings and packs. Fabrics are mostly recycled, and leather comes from gold-rated LWG tanneries. It sells direct in many currencies and through retailers worldwide. It suits travelers who value organization and detail and will pay mid-premium prices for them.

Transit Carry-On BUY
Bellroy’s hard-shell carry-on lists at $299 in the US. The spec sheet gives 21.9 x 13.8 x 8.9 inches with wheels, 109.3 oz (about 6.8 lb), 41 L of external volume and 34 L of measured capacity. The shell is matte polycarbonate, 80 percent post-consumer recycled, on HINOMOTO Lisof wheels, with removable packing cells that double as a divider. Wheels, handles, lock and cells are user-replaceable. It is sized for global carry-on limits, which is why capacity is modest. That honest 34 L figure may disappoint anyone comparing it with rivals’ headline numbers, which usually quote outside volume.
StrengthSized for strict airlines, with parts you can replace yourself
Weakness34 L of real capacity is tight for longer trips
The same Transit design scaled up to 46 L of external volume and 39 L of capacity, at $329 and 112.9 oz (about 7.1 lb). Bellroy is candid that it trades guaranteed carry-on compliance for packing space, and the product page says as much: the standard model is the one sized for global airlines. Five liters more for $30 and a few ounces is a fair exchange on US domestic flights with generous sizers. On European budget carriers and many Asian airlines it may have to be checked, which defeats the point. Check your usual airline’s dimensions before choosing it over the standard model.
StrengthFive extra liters for a small weight and price step
WeaknessNot sized for strict international cabin limits
A softside carry-on in Bellroy’s Dura Lite nylon at $289. Bellroy lists 38 L of both volume and capacity and 74.1 oz, about 4.6 lb, making it roughly two pounds lighter than the hard Transit Carry-On while holding more. It has one external pocket, which the hard cases lack. It suits travelers who fight weight limits more than size limits. The trade-off is protection: a soft case offers less defense for fragile items, and Bellroy’s warranty covers materials and workmanship rather than airline handling, so tears from a rough baggage hold are unlikely to qualify.
StrengthAbout 4.6 lb with more usable space than the hard case
WeaknessLess protection, and travel damage is not covered
The checked Transit case lists at $399, with 69 L of external volume, 60 L of capacity and a weight of 137.6 oz (about 8.6 lb). It gets a thickened shell, HINOMOTO Miraclent wheels, magnetically connected compression side pockets and an integrated TSA lock. The 10-year warranty and replaceable parts suit a bag that will be thrown around by baggage handlers. The weakness is the same as the rest of the range: the warranty does not cover airline damage, so a cracked shell after a flight is likely an airline claim rather than a Bellroy one. Pricing sits close to Away’s Medium.
StrengthReplaceable wheels, handle and lock on a checked case
WeaknessShell cracks from airline handling fall outside the warranty
A $199 carry-on backpack in Dura Lite nylon that folds out flat for packing, with a rear zip pocket for a 16-inch laptop, internal mesh packing cells, tuck-away shoulder straps and a luggage pass-through. Bellroy lists 30 L of capacity and 33.5 oz, about 2.1 lb, and covers it with a six-year warranty. That is light for a clamshell travel pack of this size. The lightness comes from thinner fabric, so it is unlikely to take abrasion as well as a heavier technical pack, and Bellroy lists no frame sheet or hip belt for heavy loads.
StrengthLight for its size, with a clamshell opening and 16-inch laptop pocket
WeaknessLighter fabric and minimal structure when packed full
A $189 commuter backpack in recycled Dura Weave with a separate section for a 16-inch laptop, a full-zip clamshell main compartment, a front pocket sized for an A5 notebook, a side bottle pocket and a luggage pass-through. It carries the six-year bag warranty. It is a good work bag that doubles as a personal item on flights, but at this size it will not replace a travel pack for anything longer than an overnight. Bellroy also sells it in value sets with a Transit Sling or a Tech Kit, which bring the effective price down.
StrengthWell-organized commuter bag that also works as a flight personal item

Things to know before you buy
Change-of-mind returns are at your expense; one recent Trustpilot reviewer says returning a single backpack cost about $30 in postage.
Orders shipped from Bellroy’s Australian warehouse can attract duties and courier disbursement fees, which Bellroy states it will not cover.
The long warranties cover materials and workmanship only; luggage damage from airline handling is not mentioned as covered, so check your airline’s claims process too.
The customer record
Bellroy’s Trustpilot profile is claimed and rated ‘Excellent’ at around 4.5 at the time of reading, though review volume over the past year is modest compared with Away or Monos. Positive reviews talk about products lasting years and about warranty claims handled without fuss; a recent example describes a Venture Sling with loose stitching replaced, another a scuffed backpack replaced after ten months.
The one-star minority clusters around money more than quality. International buyers describe duties and import fees they did not expect and Bellroy declined to refund, and others object to paying return postage on change-of-mind returns. Some quality complaints concern phone cases rather than travel gear, such as coatings that peeled within weeks. One reviewer blamed Bellroy’s carrier for a parcel left in an open garage. Bellroy replies publicly to many negative reviews.
Compare against
Peak Design
Pick this if you want a modular travel system with camera-friendly packing cubes and a lifetime warranty.
Away
Pick this if you want 100 days of free returns and cover that includes airline damage.
Aer
Pick this if you want a structured, technical travel backpack in tougher fabrics.
The verdict
Bellroy designs carefully and documents honestly. Few brands quote measured capacity next to external volume, and the 10-year luggage warranty with user-replaceable parts is a sensible model for gear that should last. The friction is commercial: 30 days to return, postage on you, duties for some international orders and no phone line. Buy the Lite Travel Pack or the standard Transit Carry-On with confidence in what you are getting, but be sure before you order. Verdict: CONSIDER.
