Monos Verdict (2026)

Light, well-reviewed polycarbonate luggage at near-permanent discounts, sold with a ‘lifetime warranty’ that leaves out zippers, cracks and airline damage unless you pay extra.

Scorecard

Why C+: The cases are light and well finished, but a $25 return fee, a narrow base warranty sold as lifetime cover and complaints about reaching a human keep it from a stronger grade.

Findings in brief

  1. The standard Carry-On weighs 6.6 lb and holds 39.9 L by Monos’s own figures, lighter than most premium rivals of the same size.
  2. The base lifetime warranty covers wheels, handles and locks only; zipper damage, cracks and airline damage need a paid upgrade at $35 or $115.
  3. The 100-day luggage trial requires the case to stay unused, needs photos before a label is issued, and deducts a $25 return fee from the refund.
  4. Core luggage was listed 15 percent below its stated price in October 2026, with a free gift over $150, so the list price is rarely what buyers pay.

The product line

Monos is a Vancouver luggage company founded in 2018 that designs in Canada and manufactures with factory partners. It sells online in the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and Australia, plus a handful of stores in North American cities. The range runs from polycarbonate cases (Carry-On, Carry-On Plus, Carry-On Pro with a front laptop pocket, Expandable versions and Check-In sizes) to Hybrid cases with aluminum frames and a full Aluminum line. Around that sit Metro nylon bags, Gesso and Field bags, compressible packing cubes, wallets, sunglasses and a small travel apparel line. It suits carry-on travelers who care about weight and finish and are comfortable buying during the brand’s frequent promotions.

Carry-On BUY

The flagship hard case lists at $275 and was selling at $233.75 in October 2026 under a 15 percent best-seller promotion. Monos gives 22 x 14 x 9 inches including wheels, 6.6 lb and 39.9 L, with a removable compression pad, YKK reverse-coil zippers and a four-position handle. That weight is its strongest argument: Away’s Carry-On 3 holds about the same and weighs two pounds more. The on-site rating is high. The catch is the warranty, which will not cover a split zipper or a cracked shell unless you buy an upgrade within 30 days of delivery.

StrengthVery light for a full-size polycarbonate carry-on
WeaknessZippers and shell cracks fall outside the base warranty

Carry-On Pro CONSIDER

The Carry-On with a front compartment that holds a 16-inch laptop behind a lockable YKK zipper. It lists at $295, and was $250.75 on promotion in October. The front pocket adds weight and costs space: Monos lists it at 7.8 lb and 36 L, against 6.6 lb and 39.9 L for the plain Carry-On. For business travelers who want to pull a laptop at security without opening the case, that trade is reasonable. For everyone else it is more weight and less room for $20 more, and a backpack does the same job.

StrengthLaptop access at security without opening the main case
WeaknessHeavier and roughly 4 L smaller than the standard Carry-On

Expandable Carry-On CONSIDER

The standard shell with a wraparound zipper gusset that adds 1.6 inches of depth, taking capacity from 39.9 L to 46 L by Monos’s figures. It lists at $325 and was $276.25 on promotion. Weight rises to 7.8 lb. The expansion is useful for the trip home, but expanded it will exceed many airline cabin limits, so treat the extra room as checked-bag territory. The gusset is a second zipper to fail, and zipper damage sits outside the base warranty, which makes the $35 Essential upgrade close to mandatory on this model.

StrengthAdds about 6 L for souvenirs without a second bag
WeaknessExtra zipper, and zipper damage needs paid coverage

Hybrid Carry-On CONSIDER

A polycarbonate shell on a zipperless aluminum frame with aluminum corner guards and two TSA-accepted locks, listed at $355 and not part of the October promotion. Removing the zipper removes the failure point that the base warranty excludes, which is a quiet argument for this model. The trade is weight and space: Monos lists it at 9.7 lb and 34.2 L, roughly three pounds heavier and 5 L smaller than the standard Carry-On. Latched cases also open like a clamshell with both halves fixed, which some travelers find awkward in hotel rooms.

StrengthNo main zipper, so no zipper to break
WeaknessThree pounds heavier and smaller inside than the Carry-On

Compressible Packing Cubes CONSIDER

Sets of four (for carry-ons) or six (for check-in sizes) in nylon twill with mesh tops and compression zippers; Monos claims they cut height by up to 60 percent. The set of four lists at $95, and in October a buy-one, half-off-the-second offer was running. They are well made and highly rated on-site, but $95 for four cubes is roughly double Away’s non-compression set. Under the FAQ they carry a two-year warranty and fall under the 30-day returns rule with the $25 return fee, which wipes out much of the refund on a single set.

StrengthReal compression zippers and sturdy twill
WeaknessExpensive, and a return costs $25 of a $95 purchase

Pro Coverage – Lifetime Warranty+ SKIP

A one-time $115 add-on per suitcase that extends the base warranty to unlimited repairs for airline damage, zipper damage, cracks and functional impacts, or a $150 lost-luggage credit or 30 percent trade-in credit instead. It must be added within 30 days of delivery. For a $234 carry-on that is close to half the purchase price again, and the lost-luggage payout is store credit, not cash. The $35 Essential tier (one covered repair) is the more rational buy if zippers worry you. The Pro product page showed a ‘notify me when available’ button in October.

StrengthCovers the damage the base warranty leaves out
WeaknessCosts nearly half a carry-on; payouts are store credit

Red flags

  • The ‘lifetime warranty’ headline covers wheels, handles and locks only. Zipper damage, cracks, major dents and airline damage are excluded unless you buy Essential ($35) or Pro ($115) within 30 days.
  • Returns cost $25, deducted from the refund, and require photos proving the item is unused before a label is issued; optional paid package protection is sold partly as a way to avoid that fee.
  • Several recent Trustpilot reviewers describe support as automated or unreachable, including one who tried email, phone and Instagram about an order change without a reply.

The customer record

Monos’s Trustpilot profile is unclaimed and shows an ‘Excellent’ score in the low 4s, with Trustpilot noting that the company does not invite reviews. Most reviews are five stars and focus on finish, weight and how a warranty claim went: several describe a broken zipper lock or gusset tear and a replacement case sent after a short video was supplied.

The one-star minority is sizable and recent. The common thread is contact: reviewers say they reached only a bot, waited days on email, or got no reply to an order change. A second thread is zippers, with at least one 2026 reviewer saying a claim for a bursting interior zipper was refused, which matches the base warranty terms. Others object to paying return shipping. Product ratings on monos.com itself sit close to five stars, which is the more flattering of the two pictures.

Rivals worth a look

Away

Pick this if you want free returns and five years of cover that includes zipper and airline damage.

Samsonite

Pick this if you want a carry-on you can buy, return and get repaired in a store nearby.

Briggs & Riley

Pick this if you want a warranty that covers airline damage at no extra cost and will pay more for it.

The verdict

The Monos Carry-On is one of the lightest premium polycarbonate cases you can buy, and the promotions make it cheaper than Away most of the year. Read the paperwork before you celebrate. The lifetime warranty is narrower than the phrase suggests, returns cost $25 and need photos, and the support record is uneven. Buy the plain Carry-On on sale, add the $35 Essential cover if you check bags, and keep the box for 100 days. Verdict: CONSIDER.

Brand verdict: CONSIDER 6.9/10, grade C+.
